Here is a poem I wrote a few years back (written prior to the Newport Harbor M.T.V. show)…

West Newport Beach is a neighborhood of crack 
aficionados, millionaires, surfers, venereal diseases,
Laventina's pizza and locals who can read the tide chart 
but not the O.C. Register.
The book “The Great Gatsby” was not based on West Newport.
There have been religious wars less complex.                        
Hit men more compassionate.
West Newport is a melting pot of human existence.  One block 
consists of a real estate developer, Dennis Rodman, three drug
addicts and a surfer in a palm tree.
They have arrived, from varying degrees of wealth, health and 
neglect, to find themselves in a caste melting pot.  In West Newport, all walks of life mesh together in this sandy atmosphere, where even the homeless have egos.  West Newport was once a place where rich white families vacationed, but those days have past.
Now those same families vacation in Laguna Beach in search of reality T.V. stars, while the beach ghetto community of West Newport enjoy their small slice of coastal California.
